Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliary’s 50th Anniversary!!! - Celebration held on November 17th.
The Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliary on November 17th celebrated 50 years of continuous service to Stuart Lake Hospital and community of Fort St James. They began planning and preparing to fundraise even before the hospital opened in 1972. Over the years the auxiliary has had more than 100 individuals involved in one way or another. To honour the efforts of the Auxiliary the District, Mayor and counsel of Fort St James provided most members with a luncheon and presented them with a plaque of recognition. Then Northern Health purchased cupcakes and April Hughes the HSA for the Omineca region thanked them for all the support they have provided through out the years. They also got a letter of recognition from MLA John Rustad.
Appreciation Day - Celebrating 50 years - May Celebration
Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliary is Celebrating 50 years of continual dedicated volunteerism!!! Throughout the years many local members have been a part of this group as shown in these pictures. The Auxiliary also thanks the community because with out their support we would not have been able to accomplish this. Balloons and Cake were a big hit by all!!
Wheelchair Accessible Bus
Fort St. James is a small community 160 kms from Prince George and especially during our long winter months, seniors are shut-in from many social activities. Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliary has helped purchase a wheelchair accessible bus for members of Fort St. James. This bus will be used to transport community members to larger cities that provide theatre, art, music and other social events. $30,000.00 was donated by the Auxiliary for the purchase of the bus and other community businesses have stepped up to help sustain the program. The Stuart Lake Seniors Association is responsible for the program and has monthly events planned so far.
Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliary would like to invite Fort St James and surrounding communities, to join us for a free beverage and snack May 8th 2015 11:30 am-4 pm at the Farmer’s Market in the Spirit Square. At this time, we want to show our appreciation to the community, for their generous donations supporting our efforts to enhance the comfort and care of patients in our hospital and other health-care facilities. The annual Turkey Dart Shoot and Christmas Raffle are the greatest fundraiser, and can only be so because of your generosity. The memorial funds sent our way are also a great way to help us purchase hospital equipment and comfort items, maintain eye appealing flower beds, support young people in their health care field, etc. Although our purchases were low last year, due to a low demand, we have already approved a great deal more this year. We have promised a large donation to the Senior's Transportation Committee towards a small wheel chair assessable bus. We have sent a donation for the stress testing equipment in SJH that will be used by local patients. As well, the local emergency department needed some updated vital sign recording equipment which is now on order.
At this time we also want to recognize and give warm thanks to the endless hours of volunteerism!!! This is for all members of the community who give their time and energy to make this such a great community to live in!
On a personal note, Thank-you Stuart Lake Hospital Auxilians, for working so hard and making this the best team to be involved in!!!

The conference was a great success!! Burns Lake and Stuart Lake Hospital Auxiliaries co hosted a first combined area conference to 60 members from 10 northern Auxiliaries. The participating Auxiliaries were Fort St John Hospital, Mackenzie & District Hospital, St. John Hospital, Mills Memorial Hospital, Bulkley Valley District Hospital, GR Baker Memorial, UHNBC, Cariboo Memorial Hospital, Burns Lake & District Health Care and Stuart Lake Hospital.
The Historic Park was very accommodating, Friday evening for our "Meet&Greet". They provided a tour and the famous chicken and duck race. Then we were entertained by guitarist Ingrid Phillips who let us sing some of her favourite campfire songs.
Penny Jones was the highlight Saturday with her comical wit while
emceeing and her powerful presentation on volunteerism. That evening some members and friends entertained the auxiliaries with skits. The catered dinner by Paul and staff was most delicious.
On Sunday the Senior's Society prepared a yummy breakfast. We had our president's meeting in the closet as members remained in the main part networking. It is our wish that all the auxiliaries have a successful year "bringing comfort and hope" to our Health Care Facilities. Thank-you to all who participated and worked hard to make this a memorable event!
